“To this day, I receive the occasional envelope from Trump. There is always a photo of him—generally a tear sheet from a magazine. Wealth inequality is growing to bigger extremes, with the world's 2,153 billionaires now claiming as much wealth as 60% of the world's population, or 4.6 billion people, according to a new report from anti-poverty group Oxfam.

The number of billionaires has doubled in the past decade, thanks partly to government policies such as the 2017 U.S. tax overhaul, which cut taxes for America's rich and corporations, as well as the strong stock market, the report noted. But that's creating a global economy where the ultra-rich are increasingly veering off from the rest of the world's population, Oxfam says.

Its report will be released at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, which begins Tuesday and draws many of the billionaire class that's singled out in the report. This year, 119 of the world's richest people — including Bridgewater Associates LP founder Ray Dalio, worth more than $16 billion — will be in attendance, representing a net worth of more than $500 billion, according to Bloomberg News. The conference's theme this year is "Stakeholders for a Cohesive and Sustainable World," and panels will include topics such as inequality and climate change. Since Oxfam started studying the dynamics of wealth inequality in 2011, the wealth concentration at the top has only intensified, Kripke said. That stems from dynamics such as stagnant wages for the typical worker, combined with the 2017 tax changes that slashed U.S. tax rates for the very rich and corporations.
For instance, average wages in the Group of Seven countries — developed economies including the U.S., Canada and Germany — rose 3% from 2011 to 2017, Oxfam said. But during that same period, stock dividends rose 31%, a trend that favors the wealthy given that the richest 1% own half of all stocks..

Multiple  disaster relief needs in half a dozen states and Puerto Rico, totally billions, that he has not funded. He waited nine days before approving the latest disaster relief package for battered Puerto Rico.

He and his syncophants have colossally mis-managed the illegal immigrant mess at our southern border, with no end in sight. Billions deflected from much needed military family housing repairs, to a wall under which this past week, was found a 70-foot deep tunnel over three-quarters of a mile long, from Tijuana into the US. Instead of merely sending everyone back, he has spent millions building facilities to hold family members he has split apart, for no discernible reason. There is no timetable to end all this.

His negotiations with N. Korea have failed in every sense of the word. NK continues to "test" launch deadly rockets. A fat,un-educated mean little dictator leading his starving millions, stood up to him, and won. If anything, tensions in South Korea and that Asian theater are worse than ever.

The Afghanistan War has no end in sight. This mess Bush started when we were attacked by 19 Saudi Arabians continues to claim American lives. The military industrial complex loves it, to the tune of a $700 Billion defens budget.

He ordered our troops out of Syria, leaving our ally open to the ensuing invasion, without consulting a soul, apparently. Just did it, without any regard to the consequences, without consulting our allies in that war, in that region. 

Apparently again without consulting anyone, he took out an Iranian terrorist leader, and now we have once again, war rumblings with Iran. Our bases have suffered rocket attacks, as has our embassy.

He has openly stated his absolute refusal to work with Democrats until they leave him alone, the petulant argument of all time by an elected leader of all the people, who garned the minority vote total but focused in and won the key battleground states and thus the Electoral College.

He implemented an alleged tax cut for the masses, that actually was a gigantic cut for his business buddies and the United Corporations of America, instead. It permanently cut their rates from 35% to 21% while giving the average citizen a temporary tax break that expires in 2025.

He has engaged in a tariff war with China putting everyone from farmers to retailers at risk of going under, while continually ignoring any and all advisors he has at his disposal on the subject.

He routinely denigrates the very citizens he is supposed to be leading, stating he did not believe Sen. John McCain was a war hero because "I prefer people who don't get captured." 

His hiring a Sec of State, then later labeling him publicly "dumber than a rock"

His inability to keep a WH staff, with about two dozen resignations. The rest are under indictment or in jail.

He has the whole world laughing at us, the Canadians worried about us, and the Mexicans hating us. The British and the Israelis don't know what to make of him.

He demanded a violation of the federal Whistleblower act be committed in publicly identifying the person who released details about his Ukrainian phone call.

He and his henchmen and women have ignored requests for data, told staff to ignore our subpoena laws, refused to let staff step forward and testify, and castigates anyone who does so, as "dis-loyal."

He continues to overturn all key legislative progress signed into law by his predecessor. He continues to deny climate change and has rolled back federal protection of millions of miles of land and waterways, now opening them all up to unregulated dumping by corporations.

He pulled us out of the Trans-Pacific Partnership. He pulled us out of the Iran Deal. He won't release his taxes.

He routinely mis-treats women publicly and apparently privately, having been caught on camera stating that if you grab a women by her crotch she'll do whatever you want. 

He has referred to poverty-stricken nations as Third World shithole countries and doesn't want any immigrants from them. 

He abandoned the Kurds, and offered to buy Greenland.

Many of his Cabinet posts remain open, three years into his reign. 

He has successfully pushed for and accomplished lifetime appointments for right-leaning Federal judges.

He dis-mantled Obama's Clean Power Plan. 

 He rescinded the 2015 Waters of U.S. Rule protecting rivers and streams from damage.

He has delayed or blocked over 30 Environmental aid bills.

The Keystone Pipeline was given  clearance to proceed, after he removed Obama's restrictions.

He established a Muslim travel ban, that was ultimately struck down by our courts.

He has rejected Obama's protections for transgender students.

He has banned transgenders from military service.

Despite already having a Space Force within the AF, he created a new one.

He has done absolutely nothing towards our pressing issues of guns, healthcare for all, solving our long-standing border control issues in a humanitarian and common-sense way. His approach is to separate families and keep everyone locked up. At our expense.

I guess after 63 years of watching great progress in this once great country get beat down, turned around, and thrown out and ignored, that is where I lost my heart. I guess I lost it when the Mil. Indus. Complex overran American govt leaders and all common sense, to build a defense budget greater than some countries. I lost it when we shot JFK because he wanted peace and was taking great strides in his own way to get us there. His speech at American Un. in 1963 was one of the best Ted Sorenson ever wrote for him. Gone. All that hope for world peace, gone, and instead, American people settle for more war memorials. I lost it when I was told to go sit in a foxhole with the instructions not to shoot back if shot at, then called a baby killer upon arriving home. I lost it when the Dulles faction in govt. and his own Joint Chiefs of Staff betrayed him, along with Averill Harrimann. I lost it when our Supreme Court gave in to Big Business and allowed unlimited campaign contributions, and offshore accounts to avoid taxes, and supported tax loopholes and any attempts to fix and eliminate them, and ruled in several recent school integration cases with decisions that have set back all progress since 1954. I lost it when our president chose the auto and bank industries to bail out, to the aversion of all others, at my expense, and yours. GM now is healthier than ever, merrily building and selling in China and making gross amounts of profit, none of which is spent in the U.S. Not a single banker has gone to jail, or even been charged, for the home loan fraud 7 years ago perpretrated knowlingly upon the country. Tax dodges in the Cayman Islands with the full knowledge and support of Congress, so ineffective it can't even reach across the aisle to talk to one another. I lost it when Congress refused to fund Education to the states, who in turn refuse to fund their districts, yet find it not a big problem, to offer retail incentives to Wal Mart and Sears and others, and tax incentives; and to subsidize farmers who are making records profits anyway. The Farm Bill this year was $956B, for a FDR dinosaur of a program that Congress has admitted publicly they do not know how to fix. I lost it when we let our inner cities crumble and ignored our fellow citizens who still live and work and play there, trying to make good lives from lousy tenements, worse schools, and unsafe paths to and from both. I lost it when only about a third of eligible voters bothered to do so in mid-terms, and the fact that we haven't had 60% participation in a presidential election since 1968. We sure like our reality t.v. programs and our cell phones, though. I lost it when one preident started a war costing billons of dollars and thousands of live from all concerned, in a futile search for wmd. I lost it when a president attacked a Middle East country that wasn't bothering us. I lost it when our war in Afghanistan reached the 14 year mark, with a minimum two more years to go. I lost it when I read our govt has spent $7.6B to fight the Afghanistan opium crop, yet it produced record levels in 2013, which are expected to be surpassed this year. I lost it when our president authorized $6B to go to Africa to fight Ebola, from our empty treasury. I lost it when I realized we still live in under a nuclear cloud on the tip of a mountain of debt, ready to fall into national bankrupticy and international disgrace. This, is when I lost it. "A few things spring to mind.

Trump lacks certain qualities which the British traditionally esteem.

For instance, he has no class, no charm, no coolness, no credibility, no compassion, no wit, no warmth, no wisdom, no subtlety, no sensitivity, no self-awareness, no humility, no honour and no grace - all qualities, funnily enough, with which his predecessor Mr. Obama was generously blessed.

So for us, the stark contrast does rather throw Trump’s limitations into embarrassingly sharp relief.

Plus, we like a laugh. And while Trump may be laughable, he has never once said anything wry, witty or even faintly amusing - not once, ever.

I don’t say that rhetorically, I mean it quite literally: not once, not ever. And that fact is particularly disturbing to the British sensibility - for us, to lack humour is almost inhuman.

But with Trump, it’s a fact. He doesn’t even seem to understand what a joke is - his idea of a joke is a crass comment, an illiterate insult, a casual act of cruelty.

Trump is a troll. And like all trolls, he is never funny and he never laughs; he only crows or jeers.

And scarily, he doesn’t just talk in crude, witless insults - he actually thinks in them. His mind is a simple bot-like algorithm of petty prejudices and knee-jerk nastiness.

There is never any under-layer of irony, complexity, nuance or depth. It’s all surface.

Some Americans might see this as refreshingly upfront.
Well, we don’t. We see it as having no inner world, no soul.

And in Britain we traditionally side with David, not Goliath. All our heroes are plucky underdogs: Robin Hood, Dick Whittington, Oliver Twist.

Trump is neither plucky, nor an underdog. He is the exact opposite of that.

He’s not even a spoiled rich-boy, or a greedy fat-cat.
He’s more a fat white slug. A Jabba the Hutt of privilege.
And worse, he is that most unforgivable of all things to the British: a bully.

That is, except when he is among bullies; then he suddenly transforms into a snivelling sidekick instead.

There are unspoken rules to this stuff - the Queensberry rules of basic decency - and he breaks them all. He punches downwards - which a gentleman should, would, could never do - and every blow he aims is below the belt. He particularly likes to kick the vulnerable or voiceless - and he kicks them when they are down.

So the fact that a significant minority - perhaps a third - of Americans look at what he does, listen to what he says, and then think 'Yeah, he seems like my kind of guy’ is a matter of some confusion and no little distress to British people, given that:

Americans are supposed to be nicer than us, and mostly are.

You don't need a particularly keen eye for detail to spot a few flaws in the man.

This last point is what especially confuses and dismays British people, and many other people too; his faults seem pretty bloody hard to miss.

After all, it’s impossible to read a single tweet, or hear him speak a sentence or two, without staring deep into the abyss.

He turns being artless into an art form; he is a Picasso of pettiness; a Shakespeare of shit. His faults are fractal: even his flaws have flaws, and so on ad infinitum.

God knows there have always been stupid people in the world, and plenty of nasty people too. But rarely has stupidity been so nasty, or nastiness so stupid.

He makes Nixon look trustworthy and George W look smart.

In fact, if Frankenstein decided to make a monster assembled entirely from human flaws - he would make a Trump.
